A new MechWarrior Online player visited my Twitch channel, www.twitch.tv/gimpy21, the other night and had some questions. So, I took a break from my normal routine and the below video is the result. A number of other viewers thought I did a good job and asked me to put it up on YouTube for other new players. So, if you're new to MechWarrior Online, I hope you find this useful. :)

Topics

MechWarrior Online: MechWarrior Academy on Public Test Server

It's finally here and, despite a few bugs (PGI knows about most of them), the new player tutorial and training portion for MechWarrior Online is very well done.

I spent about three hours playing around in the Academy and had a blast!

Check out my experience in these Twitch highlights.

MechWarrior Online: Zeus, ZEU-6S, Video Series

Here are a collection of videos where I pilot the Zeus, ZEU-6S, 80 ton Assault mech. My favorite build is two AC5 and four Medium Pulse Lasers. It doesn't sound like much, but with modules and current quirks, the AC5 hit at full strength out to just over 800 meters and cycle fairly quickly. The four Medium Pulse Lasers are not to be taken for granted either because when they all hit they do more damage than an AC20 and they cycle faster.

The video below takes place in Viridian Bog (one of my least favorite maps for Assault mechs without jump jets) during the Blood Money Event (Possible 500k C-Bills Bonus) and get 6 kills and 2 assists on 924 damage.

MechWarrior Online: Warhawk B, WHK-B, Video Series

Here are a collection of videos where I run the Warhawk B, WHK-B, 85 ton assault Clan battlemech. I primarily run it as a LRM boat with four LRM15, three Medium Pulse Lasers, and a TAG.

In the below video I fail to carry my solo queue drop team to victory. I get 3 kills and 7 assists on 1244 damage in Tourmaline Desert.

MechWarrior Online: MASC and VoiceAttack Conspire to Kill Gimpy

This is my first public use of voice command software, VoiceAttack, and MASC in an Executioner mech. I had tested it out earlier in the day in the Testing Grounds where I thought I had it working correctly. I was very wrong. :D

MechWarrior Online: Gimpy Talks About Clan Mechs, Game Modes, and Missile Mechs

A new player was watching my Twitch stream the other night and he had a few questions about MechWarrior Online. So, since my dinner was waiting for me, I spent the next 30 or so minutes answering his questions. The video recording is below. :)

MechWarrior Online: New Mech Lab on Test Server

The next version of the MechWarrior Online Mech Lab is now up on the Public Test Server. I spent about 90 minutes trying it out and experiencing the bugs. It is obviously not ready to be released to the "live" server, but it is still a good improvement over the current Mech Lab and I like it.

Take a look at the recording I made last night, May 7, 2015.

http://www.twitch.tv/gimpy21/c/6660374

The first 30 minutes is a walk around the Mech Lab. The remaining hour is spent finding and playing with the bugs to be forwarded to PGI.

I'm not putting the video up on Youtube, because this is an evaluation of a feature still in development and testing.

MechWarrior Online: Multiple Sclerosis 2015 Chairty Event

Next weekend, April 24-27, I will be playing MechWarrior Online for 12 hours each day to raise money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. I will, of course, be streaming the entire event on my Twitch channel, www.twitch.tv/gimpy21, and will have Premium Time codes to give away. You can find the event details on the MechWarrior Online forum: http://mwomercs.com/forums/topic/195479-multiple-sclerosis-fund-raising-event-2015/

Piranha Games was kind enough to schedule their biggest Community Warfare event, The Battle for Tukayyid, the same weekend. So, I will be getting lots of Community Warfare time in and I don't have to feel guilty about it! :D

If you would like to make a donation, please visit my donation page: www.StompingOutMultipleSclerosis.org

Thank you in advance.

MechWarrior Online: Wolverine Video Series

Here are a series of videos where I pilot the Wolverine. The Wolverine is a 55 ton medium mech.

In this video I pilot the Wolverine, WVR-6R, with two AC5 and one Medium Laser in River City. I get 3 kills and 6 assists on 1002 damage. The damage appears a little high, but an Artillery Strike helped and I typically do 500+ damage with this build. It's a good damage dealer thanks to the AC5 and general ballistic quirks it has.

MechWarrior Online: Clan Collection Wave 3

I'm surprised I held out this long (3 days), but I just bought the Clan Collection Wave 3 Gladiator pack. The four extra variants and mech bays were just too hard to resist (Must have them all!). Plus, the 111 days of banked Premium Time (60 from Gladiator pack and 51 days from Monthly Rewards) is nice to have.

In all honesty, when I first saw the list of mechs included I wasn't too impressed as I already have the iconic Clan mechs (Mad Cat, Vulture, Daishi, Loki, and Thor). But then I took a look at the Mech Specs on the Clan Collection Wave 3 page and was convinced I "needed" these mechs.

I am not a Clan only or Inner Sphere only person, but here's why I "need" these mechs.

Arctic Cheetah (Hankyu) - a true fast moving 30 ton light mech with ECM and Jump Jets.

Shadow Cat - a 45 ton medium mech with decent speed, ECM, and Jump Jets.

Ebon Jaguar (Cauldron-Born) - typical fast moving 65 ton Clan heavy mech with lots of hard point variations to choose from.

Executioner (Gladiator) - a 95 ton assault mech with Jump Jets that is fairly quick for an assault mech. The weapon load may be lacking at first glance, but it's in-game performance will determine how viable it really is and I think there's enough hard point variation to make it useful.

Now, the Shadow Cat and Executioner also have MASC (burst of speed engine modifier), but how it will be implemented is still an unknown. In the past PGI has stated MASC equipped engines have proved problematic because the game's net code has difficulty handling hit detection on mechs traveling at speeds over 170 kph. The Shadow Cat and Executioner more than likely will not approach 170 kph, but it should be interesting how they handle MASC and what the downside(s) to running it will be. If PGI can get it to work well without messing up hit detection, we may be seeing more MASC equipped mechs for both the Clans and Inner Sphere in the near future.

That's it for now and these mechs will not be available until June. So, there's plenty of time to speculate on how useful these mechs will be in all parts of the game and I believe they will be. Check out the Mech Specs section of the Clan Collection Wave 3 page and see for yourself.
